The Bay of Biscay is a rich area on cetaceans and seabirds. In his waters live or migrate even 24 diferents species of cetaceans as dolphins like common dolphin, bottlenose dolphin and stripped dolphin, also pilot whales and Risso´s dolphin, the unknown beaked whales, being the most abundant Cuvier´s beaked whale and rorqual whales as fin whale and minke whale.
Different seabirds species are also very abundant in this North Atlantic area. It is a very important migration region for many of them. Most frequents are gannets, shearwaters, terns, skuas, fulmars, common guillemots, razorbills, storm –petrels...

One day sailingboat trip
We embark in a 10,5 meters sailingboat in Getaria (Guipúzcoa) harbour at 7h-8h in the morning and we come back around 19h-20h, we navigate 20-25 miles off shore.
Technical explanations about different animal species, oceanography and the seabed of the Bay of Biscay will be given to you by biologists and oceanographers.
TWO DAYS SAILINGBOAT TRIP
First day we embark at 8h in Getaria harbour and head for the Cap Breton submarine Canyon and his outskirts. This submarine grave can reach more than 4000 meters of deep. It is a rich area on cetaceans, specially good for beaked whale watching, the great unknowns in cetaceans field.
Is possible to spend the night off shore or return to Getaria port to sleep resting calmly. Next day there are 2 choices, still watching cetaceans and seabirds along Cap Breton Canyon or sailing along the Basque coastline, reaching San Juan de Gaztelugatxe natural reserve in Biscay province or arrive at french coast if we bearing Est. . |

Popular cruise along the Basque coastline. The didactic aspect of this activity, as well as the leisure aspect, is our principal aim in this kina of outings. You will be given technical explanations about many natural coastal areas of the Basque Country (Flysch of Zumaia, San Juan de Gaztelugatxe...) and the history of different Basque seaside villages.
Throught these outings and a complete and attractive information head for all kind of public we would like to emphasize the significance of Basque Country natural marine sites, sensibilize people on the protection of the environment and valorize the natural and cultural heritage of the Basque Country.
